Overview of UAF Certification

The Unified Architecture Framework® (UAF®) was initially developed in response to UML®, SysML® and military defense (DoDAF, MoDAF and NAF) requirements to generate standardized and consistent enterprise architectures. The UAF is readily understandable by enterprise and IT systems architects, systems engineers, business executives, enterprise and program managers, hardware and software developers, and modelers alike.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 10% growth rate in employment opportunities for qualified industrial engineers, including systems engineers, by 2026. This 10% represents a faster growth rate than the overall job market.

UAF experts from Aerospace Corporation, Dassault Systemes, Lockheed Martin, and System Strategy, Inc. are not only responsible for the certification exam, but also the underlying standards on which the exam is based.

The introductory UAF model user (MU) exam is designed to test basic concepts in UAF model literacy and is projected to be available this fall.

The UAF Model User certification exam is a prerequisite to all subsequent UAF Model Builder exams. The exam tests an individual's ability to understand UAF, its purpose, scope, and fundamental concepts. The exam focuses on understanding the UAF Grid and the motivation for using its various Views to address a wide range of stakeholder concerns and architectural considerations.

With a UAF Model User certification, an individual can properly interpret the meaning of UAF views and their contents as well as be a productive member of an Architecture development team for an Enterprise, Mission, System of Systems, or System, while employing a UAF-based modeling methodology.
