Object Management Group Announces Practical Guide to Cloud Service Agreements V3.0
Register for April 10 webinar to hear from the authors

Needham, MA ‒ April 1, 2019 ‒ The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, today published version 3.0 of the Practical Guide to Cloud Service Agreements. Its goal is to help enterprise information technology (IT) and business decision makers analyze cloud service agreements (CSAs) from different cloud service providers. The guide is available for download at https://www.omg.org/cloud/deliverables/practical-guide-to-cloud-service-agreements.htm.

“Cloud service agreement issues, and the ways in which they are addressed, have continued to evolve since the first publication of the guide in April 2012. This version is significantly updated with new considerations, resulting from the evolution of the market, cloud technologies, and users’ understanding of their needs,” said Claude Baudoin, co-chair of the OMG Cloud Working Group and owner and principal consultant for cébé IT and Knowledge Management.

CSAs are written to set clear expectations for service primarily between the cloud customer and the cloud provider. The guide provides a prescriptive series of steps that cloud customers should take to evaluate CSAs in order to compare multiple cloud providers or to negotiate terms with a selected provider. The following steps are discussed in detail:

  • Understanding roles and responsibilities
  • Evaluating business level policies
  • Understanding service and deployment model differences
  • Identifying critical performance objectives
  • Evaluating security and privacy requirements
  • Identifying service management requirements
  • Preparing for service failure management
  • Understanding the disaster recovery plan
  • Developing an effective governance process
  • Understanding the exit process

The authors will host a complimentary webinar on April 10, 2019, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm ET to present the updated guide. Webinar details are posted on the OMG website at https://www.omg.org/webinars/index.htm.
